
Julie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - October 18 in 2000) was an American actor and singer her career spans more than 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her powerful, sultry contralto voice, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" the song she first performed in her debut album. In addition to receiving a music-related recognition, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. Her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's long and successful acting career started in 1944 , with roles in movies. They included roles as the lead female character in many westerns. She also starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional career. She released her final album of studio recordings in 1969, however, she was able to continue to make a name for herself as the role of a female nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) during which she was co-starring with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
