Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media critic for over 20 years. She is also a seasoned public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the pop culture. Aiming to break down the stereotypes that are associated with females in pop culture she also works to highlight issues related to harassment targeted at women and the other marginalized groups of the Internet space. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political thought and social theory at York University. She is also a highly-respected public presenter. Sarkeesian has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age Sarkeesian was captivated by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. As a student, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. As of 2009, this ambitious young lady was harassed on the internet for her website series on gender in videogames. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. It actually increased her importance as a feminist and media critique. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. The nonprofit explores the portrayals of women in contemporary pop culture.
